CONCEPT
ANTI-CAPITALIST QUEER FEMINIST : It feels strange. This is a work that appeals to anti-capitalism, but it asks you for capital. I hate myself for being so immersed in capitalism. But I can't escape it completely if I want to live in this world. Paradoxes arise endlessly in my values and my existence. In fact, the iPhone on which I'm writing this is in my hands after being exploited and storing wealth.
Honestly, I'm by no means a perfect "ugly, anti-capitalistic, queer feminist." There's no such thing. But by purchasing this piece, you're directly supporting me, not Amazon or Uniqlo.
They're supporting something that was made by two queer people, and I think it's important that there's transparency about how this money is spent.
This is my living expenses. I will mainly use it for food and rent next month. I have been making a free queer feminist zine called BGU since 2017. Through BGU, I create expressions and movements that are not bound by capital. In order to continue this, I absolutely need money to support my life. Think of it as a kind of wealth distribution.
Does this all make sense? Of course not. How do we fight capitalism that is so deeply rooted?
One thing I can say is that through these small dialogues, struggles and transparency, I think we can question the structure a little.
Rainbow military uniforms? $800 T-shirts proclaiming "girl power"? Fuck that. How contradictory it is to "empower" others while participating in their discrimination. I hope this message reaches them as a small step towards changing this structure. (super-KIKI)
